Dubai Residents must clear Traffic Fines to renew residency said GDRFA Chief

News: As per Dubai top immigration official, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) “Residents in Dubai will no longer be able to renew their residency visas if they have outstanding traffic fines”.

Traffic Fines to Link with Residency Renewal System:

Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri said this during a press briefing, urging residents to respect local laws and take responsibility for pending penalties.

Al Marri noted that failure to clear fines could create problems in the future, especially when residents try to leave the country.

He more added “We are doing everything for the residents to Live here, follow the rules, If the traffic fine is a big amount, they can pay in instalments. We are not making it hard for people.”

“Tomorrow, after five years, if they have started to travel back home, they will not allow them to travel. You have to pay the fine first,”

The GDRFA chief said the policy is not intended to burden residents but to ensure everyone respects the local law.

Last year, MOHRE urged residents to pay ILOE Insurance Fees or Fine on time in-order to get residency renewals. Those not paying ILOE dues on time will not get new residency visa until they clear the payment.

In near future, UAE Government might link/merge Emirates ID, Residency system with RTA, Dubai Police, Municipality (for Driving License and Mulkiya fines etc) to check all violations on one platform so all fines get clear before issuing or renewing the residency.

It is advisable to pay traffic fines or visa overstay fines on time to avoid administrative measures that will be taken against the violators including the denial of entry or exit to and from the country.

Conclusion:

Dubai Authorities are piloting a new system that will link traffic fine payments to residency renewal system. Under the new system, residents needs to settle or pay any outstanding or dues related to traffic fines before they can complete their visa renewals or new visa issuance procedures. At this stage, the system is yet in the pilot phase and has not been applied across the board and it does not apply at Dubai Airports GDRFA centers.
