Heat Wave Guidelines | MoHAP issues Tips to stay Hydrated during Humidity Rise next Week

heatwave preventive measures

As summer temperatures soar, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has issued essential heat wave guidelines to safeguard residents and visitors from extreme heat.

Remember to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during hot weather.

Heat wave Guidelines and Safety Recommendations:

·       To stay safe in the heat, monitor weather forecasts for heat wave alerts and ensure your first aid kit includes essentials like electrolyte water, a thermometer, water bottles, cooling cloths, and a battery-operated water sprayer.

·       Both residents and visitors are advised to keep a heat stress guidebook and emergency contact information readily available.

·       To maintain indoor comfort, Ministry also suggests blocking direct sunlight with shades or curtains during peak hours (12:30 to 03:30 PM) and opening windows at night for ventilation.

·       The use of air conditioners, air coolers and fans is recommended to keep temperatures low.

·       Plan your outdoor activities during cooler times of the day, either in the early morning or late evening. Remember to protect yourself from the sun by applying sunscreen and wearing hats.

·       To keep yourself fresh and hydrated, follow MoHAP’s advice by drinking water regularly and incorporating hydrating foods into your diet, including cucumbers, watermelon, oranges and strawberries.

·       Lightweight and light-colored with loose-fitting clothing can also help in managing body temperature.

Temperature Range:

This week, daytime temperatures are expected to range from 42°C to 44°C (with certain regions reaching as high as 46°C) but it will feels like 50°C because of rise in humidity level.

Humidity to rise more:

Increase in humidity percentage makes it feel hotter than it is, it’s the humidity that let our body lose more water, so keeping our-self hydrated is the only solution to avoid heat stroke.

According to Dr Ahmed Habib of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the 2nd half of summer is characterized by a sudden rise in humidity, which makes it feel hotter than it is. So, to stay cool, take precautions in the extreme heat.
